Guelaguetza is a festival to show the beautiful and unique traditions of Mexico and specially the state of Oaxaca.

What is The Guelaguetza Festival

It is absolutely a multicolored party, it takes places in the state of Oaxaca since 1932. The festival takes place in July every year.

Different ethnic communities from the state of Oaxaca come together to share their traditions.

Each community shares its different dances, costumes, crafts, textiles and all these with a great historical and cultural relevance.

The participants proudly show their traditions to national and foreign visitors.

The streets of Oaxaca are filled with color and the people gather in the streets and on the Fortin Hill to enjoy the celebration.

In the Guelaguetza we can appreciate the traditions of each region; but also taste the tamales, mole, coffee, tasajo and many unique delicacies of this Mexican state.

It is definitely a popular festivity full of color and folklore.

The Guelaguetza Auditorium was built specifically for this event, with a capacity of 11,000 people. Inside the auditorium Zones C and D are free to access, and Zones A and B have a price.
