“Life is so much better by the beach”
Beautiful places near Cancun and What to do
Visiting this beautiful island in the Caribbean Sea is a must when you visit Cancun. Isla Mujeres is located in front of Cancun, so it is very easy to make a one-day visit to this beautiful Caribbean island.
The piers are located in the hotel zone, they have many schedules and the Ferry ride is fabulous. I prefer to travel in the upper part of the ferry since you can enjoy the best view and the sea breeze. To explore Isla Mujeres, I recommend renting a golf cart because they make it easy to wander the island.
North Beach is the perfect place to relax, enjoy the beautiful beach, good food and enjoy water activities. While in South Point, you will find a Sculptural Park; with the most beautiful views of the Caribbean and a spectacular cliff. If you want, you can also visit Garrafon Natural Reef Park, where you can enjoy kayaking, snorkeling, zip line and more. I promise you it will be a great experience.
Playa del Carmen
This site so famous at the Riviera Maya, it’s located just one hour from Cancun. It’s a place that you must visit at least for a day, although I recommend you to dedicate at least a couple of days. Playa del Carmen was a very quiet town just a few years ago, but now it is a beautiful place to explore if you’re looking for more.
The iconic place in Playa del Carmen Beach is 5th Avenue, where you can find the best restaurants, galleries, shops, nightlife, hotels and everything in a pedestrian street.
It is very easy to visit since the ADO bus will leave you exactly on 5th Avenue. Of course, Playa del Carmen is much more than just a street, there are many places where you can rent a bike if you want to explore more of this beautiful destination in a very simple way.
Cozumel Island is located in front of Playa del Carmen and you need to take a Ferry Boat to get there. The ferry terminal is located very close to the ADO bus terminal, just a few minutes walking. Cozumel is a paradise if you want to relax, explore wonderful beaches and it’s the best place to get your Open Water Certification.
You can also visit Chankanaab, a beautiful Natural Park where you can snorkel or dive and contemplate the sub-aquatic sculptures of the Christ and the Virgin.
Puerto Morelos Town is a small paradise located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. If you are looking for a beautiful beach in the Caribbean, where you can relax, much less touristic and nice vibe, Puerto Morelos is an excellent option. Getting to the town is also very simple, ADO buses or public transport vans are the cheapest options.
You only need to take a taxi to the beach, since the transport does not reach there. But it will not be expensive because the distance is very short.

Where to stay in Cancun
The best area to stay is in the Hotel Zone at Kukulkan Boulevard; which is divided on one side by the Caribbean Sea and on the other the Nichupte Lagoon. Another area that you can consider is Downtown in the city, at a much lower price, but not near the beaches.
This type of hotels are the most common there and at the Riviera Maya, they include food in a different type of restaurants, beverages, activities and everything you need to relax and have fun if you don’t want to leave the hotel.
If you are looking for luxury, high standard service, a wide range of gastronomic delights on a relaxing getaway this is the best option. The price will be higher, but I’m sure it will be a wonderful experience.
Budget Hotels, Airbnb and House Rentals
There is a large number of accommodations of this type. Some of these options are located on the side of the Nichupte lagoon in the hotel zone. If you are looking to explore places or towns near, take tours, other beaches or taste different restaurants, in my opinion, this is the perfect option.
It is not worth spending much more if what you are looking for are the activities outside the hotel. And you will have the freedom to choose the location and the price that suits you best.
Most of the hostels in Cancun are located in the downtown area, but others have an excellent location in the hotel zone. Keep in mind that if you stay in the downtown area it will be more difficult to enjoy the beaches, the entertainment places or the nightlife in the hotel zone. But you can take the public transport and it will be very useful, also I recommend you to avoid taxis, as they are quite expensive.
My Hotel Recommendations in Cancun
Before living in Cancun, I had the opportunity to stay at some resorts during my vacations. And these are an excellent option in my opinion.
Le Blanc Spa Resort
A luxurious All-Inclusive resort for Adults-only, where you can enjoy absolute relaxation. A SPA day, great food and the best for an unforgettable vacation.
Dreams Sands Cancun Resort and Spa
A beautiful All-Inclusive family resort with specialty restaurants, Spa, teens and kids activities and beautiful rooms. It is located near the nightlife area.
Grand Oasis Cancun
This is also an All-Inclusive family resort but a little different since it has a Casino inside the hotel, a special area for adults-only next to the beach with private pools and music. It also has specialty restaurants, cafes, bars and much more.
Grand Sens Cancun
If you’re looking for a Luxury All-Inclusive Adults Only Resort, Grand Sens is a great option. You’ll find a wide variety of restaurants, bars, night club, gym and of course a beautiful beach.
Nightlife in Cancun and the Best Clubs
A very important aspect of this site is the nightlife and of course, it is not something everyone is looking for. But if you want to have fun at night, there are many options.
Of course, the highest season of Cancun’s nightlife is during Spring Break, but I assure you that every day of the week during any season you will find an excellent atmosphere.
Most of the nightclubs are located in the same area, so it is very easy to decide in the same place which one catches your attention the most. And also, must of the clubs sell open bar bracelets that includes the entrance and drinks all night.
Without a doubt, this is the most famous and spectacular bar on the beach. The acrobatic shows, choreography, the best music, and the atmosphere make Coco Bongo an excellent option. And although the price tickets are expensive, the experience is unique.
Other great and fun places are:
La Vaquita, Mandala, Senor Frogs, The City, Hard Rock, and Palazzo.
Where to Eat in Cancun
Food is one of the main attractions of a destination, I’m sure you will discover gastronomic wonders. The variety of restaurants is extraordinary so, do not miss the opportunity to try new dishes. You will find Mexican food, of course, but also International, Seafood, Vegan and much more.
Some of my favorites in the Hotel Zone are:
Puerto Madero Argentine
La Destileria Mexican
As I said in the first part of the Post, a place where you can find a variety of food at different prices is La Isla Mall, located in the hotel zone. From Fast Food to beautiful restaurants with a wide variety of options for all tastes.
More options for food
Whether you stay in a hotel with a kitchenette or in an apartment, you will have the freedom to cook if you want. For this reason, I recommend that if you want to buy products, food or even Tequila at local prices in the hotel zone, go to a Supermarket.
The first option is Chedraui Selecto, near Hard Rock Cafe, where you will find a wide variety of products, fruits, vegetables, and prepared food at great prices. The second option is Soriana located in the Kukulcan mall, it is a smaller option but it can also be very useful.
More Things to do in Cancun, Mexico
Flea Market Coral Negro
It’s located at the Kukulkan Boulevard in the Hotel Zone, in front of Hard Rock Café and Coco Bongo.
This is a place that you can visit very easily because of its location, whether you are interested in something in particular or just want to spend a fun time watching Mexican handicrafts, jewelry, and some crazy things!
Ask the price, negotiate and if you want just say no, thank you! Because the sellers are very persistent. I think it’s fun, regardless if you buy or not.
Visit Mercado 28
This market is not only for tourists, local people do their shopping there, but it’s true that it has become an attraction for tourists. It’s cheaper than the shops at the Hotel Zone, but I recommend you to ask and negotiate the price first. At the market, you can find all kinds of crafts, jewelry, clothing and much more.
Although Mercado 28 is not located in the hotel zone, it is very easy to get there, by bus from the Hotel Zone or by taxi.
A rotating tower to enjoy beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea.
Ferris Wheel Cancun
At the Ferris Wheel you can also have amazing views of the hotel zone and the ocean, it is located at La Isla Mall.
As I said in the previous post, this place has something special for each person and is much more than just great resorts and nightlife.
Have you ever visited this wonderful place?
